| Research & development The first phase of the joint TUD-KIM-RNLAF project has focused on the use of advanced data presentation for UAV mission management using spin-off from synthetic vision developments. The main goal of the research was to improve the situation awareness of a UAV operator. To test new ideas, two research / demonstrator systems have been realized: one at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science in Delft; and one at the Royal Netherlands Naval College in Den Helder (see infrastructure). Mission management concept The mission management concept that has been implemented supports dynamic replanning and handling of situation uncertainties to replace the tightly scripted methods used today. It utilizes integrated data presentation to support the operator in obtaining level 2 Situation Awareness (SA) and immediate feedback on the future effects of changes to the situation to support level 3 SA. Results Results from evaluations performed in 2003 confirm the anticipated advantages resulting from the integration of data and the ability to almost instantaneously see the impact of all known constraints on changes to the flightplan (see publications & presentations).
